Linda Sibio’s practice spans more than five decades of drawing, writing, performance, and visual work. The projects below represent key bodies of work that inform both her individual practice and the Error of Madness collaboration. Several continue to evolve in real time.
ORIGINS OF SELF
West Virginia Schizophrenic Blues (1990)
​Born from Linda’s childhood in West Virginia and time spent in an orphanage, this body of work reflects the earliest formation of identity, displacement, and survival. It sets the emotional foundation for much of her later practice.
SURVIVAL • ADDICTION • MENTAL CHALLENGES
Apartment 409 (1992)
​Work from her time in Los Angeles, navigating addiction, instability, and psychiatric care. These pieces mark a period of fragmentation and intensity that later becomes a central visual language in her drawings and writings.
LOSS • PERFORMANCE • TRANSFERMATION
Energy and Light and Their Relationship to Suicide (1996)
Created during Linda's years working on Los Angeles' Skid Row. Explores the intersection of personal grief and collective trauma. Through seven mechanical sculptures, performance, and narrative, the work transforms experiences of the loss of her mother and suicidal ideation into an act of reflection, human connection, and healing.
MORTALITY • MEANING
Reflections in a Broken Mirror (2010-2016)
A 226-page book of drawings and writings created over six years while Linda was unknowingly dying from AIDS-related illness. Produced through improvisation and deep reflection, it explores mortality, creativity, and mental illness while laying the philosophical foundation for The Insanity Principle.

The Insanity Principle (2003-Current)
​An interdisciplinary workshop developed by Linda Sibio that uses drawing, writing, performance, and non-linear thinking to explore creativity, perception, and lived experience. Created for museums, universities, and community spaces, it invites participants to engage with art as a tool for resilience, connection, and transformation.
SOCIAL JUSTICE • INEQUALITY • COLLECTIVE EXPERIENCE
Economics of Suffering (2019-2024)
Linda Sibio's largest and most ambitious body of work, examining the psychological and social consequences of wealth disparity, poverty, and systemic injustice. Spanning drawings, paintings, installations, and interactive works, the series amplifies the experiences of society's most vulnerable while challenging viewers to reconsider the systems that shape inequality. Part IV was presented at Craft Contemporary in Los Angeles in 2023-24.
THE PRESENT CHAPTER (ONGOING)
Apocalyptic Apostle
Linda Sibio's current body of work, documented in real time as part of the Error of Madness collaboration. Comprising fourteen works inspired by the Stations of the Cross, the series reimagines Mary Magdalene as its central figure, challenging traditional religious narratives while exploring themes of exclusion, power, suffering, and redemption.
