Artistic Approach

Error of Madness is not structured as a traditional documentary about Linda, and it’s not a film made after the fact. It’s being built as a living collaboration between photography, film, and Linda’s own ongoing practice. We are not interpreting Linda’s work from a distance; instead, we are working alongside it.

Gordon’s photography begins with presence. He spends time with Linda in her environment, not directing or staging her life, but responding to it. The images are not meant to explain her, but to meet her where she is.

At the same time, Linda is not only the subject of the work—she is actively shaping it. Her drawings, language, and way of seeing feed directly into the visual and conceptual language of the project. The work is influenced by her ongoing process, not just her history.

My role is to hold the structure of the collaboration—to connect the practices, support the conditions for the work to happen, and help translate what emerges into different forms: photography, film, exhibition, publication, and public engagement.

The opening image and animated sequence (below) offer an early glimpse into the collaborative process now underway between Linda Sibio and Gordon Clark.

The film will grow directly out of the photographic process. Images, conversations, and moments of exchange become the foundation for cinematic work, rather than being documented after the fact. This approach is intentionally flexible. It allows the work to shift as the collaboration develops, rather than locking it into a predetermined narrative.

What we are building is not a fixed interpretation of Linda’s life, but an evolving body of work shaped by three perspectives moving in real time: Linda’s lived experience and artistic voice, Gordon’s photographic response, and a structural framework that allows the two to meet and expand. In that sense, Error of Madness is both a project and a process.

This collaboration is rooted in more than fifty years of Linda Sibio's artistic practice. Understanding where the work comes from is essential to understanding where it is going.
